Gatehouse shields distracting apps behind short, AI-judged access requests, and lets you appoint
an accountability partner who approves unlocks that go beyond your set policy.
Common questions
- Why do I have to name my apps? iOS does not let the app read the real names of
the apps you select for privacy reasons, so you give each one a nickname the gatekeeper can
reason about.
- I'm locked out and can't reach my partner. You're never permanently stuck.
You can remove the partner at any time — while locked, the removal takes effect on
a 72-hour delay they can't block (they're simply notified once it does), and once they're gone your
unlock no longer needs their co-sign. You may not even need to wait that long: an unlock request
lapses the partner requirement after several days of their silence, and a request that stalls gives
you a "remove them and unlock" button directly. (Unlocking always runs its own waiting period too;
a required co-sign runs alongside that timer — both must finish — so it's an extra check on top of
the wait, never a way around it.) As a final fallback, deleting and reinstalling the app resets it
to a fresh state.
- Shielding isn't working. Make sure you granted Screen Time permission when
prompted. Screen Time controls do not work in the iOS Simulator — only on a real device.
- Sign in. Sign in with Apple is required to use the app's shared AI access,
subject to a daily free limit.
